A time comes when silence is betrayal . . . We must speak with all the humility that is appropriate to our limited vision, but we must speak.  For we are deeply in need of a new way beyond the darkness so close around us.

Six Years Too Long
Jan. 11, 2008

On Jan. 11, 2008, the sixth anniversary of the opening of Guantanamo concentration camp, protests were held in 83 cities around the world. In Washington, there was a rally on the mall sponsored by the National Religious Campaign Against Torture, Amnesty International, and Witness Against Torture. The rally was themed "Counter Terror with Justice: Stop Torture, Close Guantanamo." Following speeches, dozens of activists organized by Witness Against Torture delivered a message to the U.S. Supreme Court demanding the shut-down of the U.S. prison at Guantánamo and justice for those detained there.

About 40 people were arrested inside the Court building and another 40 on the steps. The arrests followed a solemn march from the National Mall of 400 persons that included a procession of activists dressed like the Guantánamo prisoners in orange jumpsuits and black hoods.

Several WRRCAT members participated in the rally and the march.
